Recorded over a period of 5 hours. The timelapse isn't as impressive as I thought it would be. I was expecting the star to do some sort of speeding up or reversal, but what it did when it hit periapsis is stop in the sky. You can see it hang motionless as the planet underneath me rotates and orbits around the star, the galaxy and the rest of the stars passing around us as time goes on. If I knew this is what would happen, I would have recorded a longer timelapse. Foresight is 20/20. The cut in the middle of the video is when periapsis happens and after that the star is receding. Oochorsch PO-X d2-1 is a system in Elite Dangerous with a single star and a single planet. The planet has a hugely elliptical orbit, taking 89.5 years to make one full orbit of its star. On February 16th, 2026 at 14:41 UTC, it made its closest approach to its star, coming 7.2 light seconds from it.
