Is God sadistic? Why has he given us a free will?

At the Zakir Naik Dubai 2012 Peace TV Convention 1. "Is God sadistic? Why has He given us a 'free will' knowing very well how we're gonna misuse it like crazy?" 2. Why does God [in his holy book(s) - Quran or Bible] repeatedly boast about his creation? Does he expect us to be amazed at the intricacies of the universe he created, the complexity of the human body, the solar systems, the stars, mountains, the protons, electrons and whatnot!?! What's so fantastic or great about Him creating all of this? Isn't it supposed to be a piece of cake for God, He could do all of this and so much more. Right? So why am I expected to be amazed at his creation of the universe, or anything else that He has made when we all very well know that he could do infinitely more than this, if He so wished. I put it this way: "If Bill Gates gave me a $100, should I be amazed?"
