French Interview Of Ngo Dinh Nhu, Advisor Of Ngo Dinh Diem Ngo Dinh Nhu (7 October 1910 – 2 November 1963) was a Vietnamese archivist and politician. He was the younger brother and chief political advisor of South Vietnam's first president, Ngo Dinh Diem. Growing up in a Catholic family following Confucianism tradition, Ngo Dinh Nhu studied abroad at the National School of Charters (Ecole nationale des chartes) and graduated in 1930. While training as an archivist in France, Nhu adopted the Roman Catholic ideology of personalism. He returned to Vietnam from France at the outbreak of World War II. In his early age, Nhu showed little interest towards the political path taken by his elder brothers. However, upon returning to Vietnam, he helped his brother in his quest for political power, and Nhu proved an astute tactician and strategist, helping Diem to gain more leverage and outwit rivals. During this time, he formed and handpicked the members of the secret Cần Lao Party, which eventually became their secret police force. Nhu remained as its head until his own assassination in the 1963 coup. This video is an excerpt from an interview with Mr. Ngo Dinh Nhu in 1963, translated into Vietnamese by A.V Bussy Saint-Georges and HL Saigon. It shows Nhu's strategic vision and the tense relationship with the US government at that time.
