Our first look at what is a long-term project revamping a listed manor house in Warwickshire and you're in with us on the ground floor of this one! This week saw us putting two days into familiarisation and inspection/testing to find what's there and what state it's all in. The previous owner had said he'd used a proper sparkie in maintaining the thing, but it's in a woeful condition. Filmed over two days, we had a shed-load of video that I've had to edit down to be somewhere manageable but this is a long watch and only part one of two videos on the inspection and testing element, the second of which will be uploaded as soon as I can pull my finger out of my arse. Warning: contains strong language and scenes of doofusness. I've listed chapters so that you can cut to the chase if you can't be arsed to wade through the whole goddamned thing: Chapter 1 (1:00): A peek at where we are Chapter 2 (7:09): House tour with Hilary, our client Chapter 3 (17:47): First look at the electrical installation Chapter 4 (39:36): Circuit tracing Chapter 5 (55:00): Inspection and testing (the bit you actually want to see, probably). Previously, people have questioned why time is being thrown at inspecting and testing on an older installation due for refurbishment rather than just rewiring it, and while much of this will eventually be rejigged and replaced, it's not something that's going to happen quickly in the short term. With my extended family living in the place, I want to know it's safe at this time. The installation has been deemed to be 'unsatisfactory' as far as our report goes, but not everything is captured on camera or discussed in this video. For the musical bit, I wanted to have Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Prelude, but Sony have been dicks about people on YouTube using the music of a composer who's been dead for the best part of 300 years and I couldn't find a royalty free performance, although I could find a licence for £35. It was the same with Delibes Flower Duet as my second choice. YouTube costs me enough in time; I don't want to piss money on it, and I don't want to stuff in a load of adverts to pay for any whistles and bells even on a video this long. So, my thanks go to YouTuber Kabbalistic Village Music for taking the time to provide musical content for creators. Go take a nosey around that channel: / @kabbalisticvillagemusic ...although a copyright claim was logged for this music on 30/05/20 which means I am no longer responsible for any ad interruptions and any revenue for the whole thing now goes to some dipshit record company. Can't say I'm too fussed; in the past six months the ad revenue only added up to £16. Still, it's annoying to get permission to use a piece from the creator only for a bunch of suits to roll up later high-fiving each other over a job well done in filing a successful claim. Well done lads, I'm slow-clapping you right now. Apologies if the camerawork makes you dizzy, Nige is a menace on the bloody zoom button and has been suitably chastised. When I moan about the forms about an hour in, I stated there was nowhere to record Zs at DB. The model forms in BS7671 do have a Zs at DB box on the Schedule of Test Results, but Easycert doesn't. The Easycert layout is based on the NICEIC forms, so they're responsible for that omission. That doesn't detract from my point about the certificates and report as defined in BS7671 being unfit for purpose though: they're crap in my opinion. This video was not sponsored by Unilite. I don't know if I mentioned, but I bought mine for nine quid (ex-VAT) from Denmans. The radios we use are Binatone Action 1100 PMR446 models as seen in this affiliate link: https://amzn.to/35Gt31Y
