Acoustic to Electronic drum conversion: A quick recap and test of my converted acoustic Pearl Custom Z drums to an electronic kit, using Triggera Intrigg Triggers and Remo MH2 double ply mesh-heads. And (ofcourse) don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! :) When playing live I mostly use my good old Pearl World Series drums (except for the snare). Besides the fact that they’re half the weight of the Z’s, I’m not afraid for some scratches…which is unavoidable when playing bars and clubs. Leaving my precious Z’s in storage is a shame, so I made electronic drums out of them. It plays better (for my basic playing-style that is), looks better and the process is easily reversible because there’s no drilling whatsoever involved. After looking at centered triggers first, I choose these side-triggers because I don’t like the idea of a volume spike when having the trigger at the center of the drum. The Triggera triggers do their job well. They support dual-triggering and the installation is self-explainable. They’re also a lot cheaper than centered triggers, maybe this was the main reason :) I’m still fine-tuning some settings in the Roland TD-12 module, this takes some time to be honest, but I’m confident I will get the results I’m searching for. Be sure to check out the channel “65 Drums”. He’s all about e-drums and helped me a out a lot of times. Some say Mesh-heads can “sand paper” the bearing edges. Just to be sure, I covered them with electrical tape. Instead of drilling holes or adjusting the cables in order to fit through the air-vent, I bought cheap single ply mesh-heads for the bottom side and cut a small hole in them.
