Japan launches most advanced anti-ship missile in Australian waters

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) on Saturday (July 22) launched a surface-to-ship missile off Australia's east coast at Jervis Bay, about 195km (121 miles) south of Sydney, as part of the biennial Talisman Sabre war games. The Type 12 surface-to-ship missile is Japan's most advanced anti-ship missile and marked the first time the JGSDF tested it in Australia. In addition to Australia and Japan, forces from the U.S., Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of Korea, Tonga and Britain are taking part in the military exercises.
