Professor Matory outlines some of his research on African descended ethnic groups in the United States. Professor Matory’s latest book, "Stigma and Culture: Last-Place Anxiety in Black America", concerns the competitive nature of ethnogenesis and the self-representation of black immigrants and native ethnic groups in the United States. J. Lorand Matory, PhD is the Lawrence Richardson Professor of Cultural Anthropology and of African and African American Studies at Duke University. On February 3, 2016, Professor Matory presented “Black Anthropology: between Continents, between Disciplines, between Media.” during a University Scholars Seminar.
