I do not know yet exactly how to start this video. Because the test results from today's system differ significantly from what I expected. To be honest, I thought today's system would be able to run most of my selected games properly. Far from it! Nevertheless, it's best to start from the beginning. What is in our current system? An Intel Core i3-7020U, which disappointed me a bit performance-wise, 8GB soldered DDR4 dual-channel RAM 2.666 MHz, a 256 GB PCIe SSD, and last but not least the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. This system has been used on this channel several times. If you are interested, take a look at the corresponding playlist, which can be found in the video description. But now back to the i3 7020U in 20 games. Why did the performance disappoint me? The 15W TDP CPU clocks at about 2.3GHz in games. That is for a dual-core CPU (2 cores 4 threads) really little in 2022. That is also the reason why many games that would run with the Intel HD 620 somehow don't work very well. e.g. FIFA 22 I had to lock to 30 FPS to get a halfway decent gaming experience. Running FIFA 22 unlocked on this system results in weird slow-motion effects. The main reason for this is the slow CPU. A higher clocked 4 thread chip or 4 core chip would perform much better. But not only FIFA 22, also GTA V online, PUBG, or Lost Ark would run so much better with a faster CPU. PUBG for example had the effect that due to the high CPU load especially at the beginning of a match the control of the own character was almost impossible. What I want to say is that the integrated Intel HD 620 graphics unit is often slowed down by the slow i3 7020U. This can be observed very well in this video. This is a real pity because the HD 620 itself is already no powerhouse. Accordingly, a reasonably performant CPU would have done the chip a lot of good. That is the main reason why I am somewhat disappointed with the i3 7020U. Sure, it's a 15W TDP chip from 2018, but I was just hoping for a bit more performance. Accordingly, my recommendation is not very positive. I cannot recommend the i3 7020U for gaming in 2022. The performance was simply too low. It is good enough for small, older games. Left 4 Dead 2, Age of Empires 2 HD, Half-Life 2, The Sims 4, or Skyrim Vanilla would be games I can recommend without reservation. But to refer to the performance of this system exclusively to classic games was not part and purpose of this video. Accordingly, I can't recommend the i3 7020U for gaming in 2022, as sorry as I am. If you already own this system and want to play the latest titles simply get a new one. It's not worth spending any more money on the old system. That's it for my voiceover.
