Our insectoid friends inhabit the world called The Evernight, specifically its forests. They fill the ecological niche of pest controllers, as they primarily feed on a kind of tree called Whining Firs, which do not photosynthesize and block the crucial moonlight for any other life. It is not edible, yet they consume nutrients out of the soil just to spend them on constant whining and complaining, hence the name. Additionally, their bodies unintentionally spread pollen between the few plants that survive under the Firs, aiding their growth. The physiology of Tabflies lets them metabolize usually inedible things such as rocks, sand, and said Firs, keeping the balance of their whole habitat. They also use their horns to emit clicking sounds and vibrations, communicating with other Tabflies over long distances. And it seems like one of them ended up in here! Good thing it's not picky, so it scarfs down local thorny weed and rocks. That backfired on its cognitive functions though, making it unable to even comprehend its own existence.
