March 17 2005 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION Two future teammates on the 2008 US Olympic Team, aka "The Redeem Team" face off in Miami. The visiting LA Lakers, a one man show (shoutout Chucky Atkins for putting up 23 this game) of Kobe Bryant versus the burgeoning superstar, second year in the NBA 23 year old Dwyane Wade. Wade was already an All-Star, and was ready for the challenge presented in front of him in the name of Kobe Bryant. This game would be the tale of two halves, with Kobe would get off to a hot start, scoring 21 in the first half, shooting 7 of 12 from the field, while D-Wade had 16. The second half would be a different story, with Miami's defense stifling Bryant to a mere 5 points on 1 of 11 shooting, while Wade was uncontainable, with 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting, as well as 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. The Heat would catch a double-digit victory over L.A., who were fighting for their playoff lives, while Miami was in first place of the entire NBA record-wise. This game reaffirmed Dwyane Wade's own self-confidence, as he revealed in the 08 Redeem Team documentary he believed he was the second best shooting guard in the league at the time, to Kobe. If my non-NBA experience opinion may interject, I'd like to remind D-Wade of a man named Tracy McGrady.
