Welcome to Part 1 of EE05: Lighting Control System Design, a Lighting Controls Academy course. A good lighting design requires a good lighting controls design and, because of this, good design practices and a disciplined approach are essential with lighting controls, particularly as lighting control systems become more inherently sophisticated to satisfy more complex requirements. EE105: Lighting Control System Design provides detailed information about designing an effective lighting control solution. The first step is identifying owner requirements, including how the building and its spaces will be used, how the lighting is expected to behave, and other requirements such as code compliance. This information is used to define the Owner Project Requirements (OPR), Control Intent Narrative (CIN), and resulting Sequence of Operations (SOO), all of which are the focus of this learning module. By the end of part 1 of this course, you will be able to 1) determine all needs, wants, and requirements related to the lighting control system before and during the design, 2) express the goals and intent of the lighting control system within a CIN document that can be used as a control roadmap for the entire project team, 3) integrate the controls design with the lighting design via control zoning and 4) detail the control system’s behavior via an SOO. This course is registered and/or recognized by the AIA (LU/HSW), NCQLP (LC), NALMCO (CLCP), DLC, and the State of California.
