3 identical rooms are ignited to allow a comparison between a 25 mm HP hoseline flowing 230 LPM, a 38 mm normal pressure line flowing 230 LPM and a 25 mm CAFS hose reel. The 4 numbers on the right show the temperature readings from 4 identical thermocouple arrangements. The large image on right shows the 25 mm HP attack, top right shows the Normal Pressure (NP ie 7 bars) 38 mm attack line and the bottom right show CAFS through a 25 mm hosereel. The CAFS attack rapidly drops the temperature at the lowest level. Both the 25 mm and the 38 mm water lines drop the neutral plane. The CAFS maintains thermal balance better through out the entire exercise. At .47 CAFS has achieved near total knockdown. At 1:16 the CAFS lower TC reads only 36 C, while the HP is 103 C and the NP 38 reads 64 C. CAFS uses the least amount of water, has the most rapid knockdown, causes the least disruption to the thermal balance, has less re-ignition and drops the lower 2 temperature readings significantly faster that either of the water lines. The CAFS unit is a Waterous 140 P series. See also • CAFS Gas Cooling
