Toyota AB60 No Reverse After Rebuild

Today’s topic on The Builder's Bench is a Toyota truck with the AB60 transmission which had no reverse after a rebuild, but had reverse before the rebuild. Co-host Rino Partipilo of ATSG walks us through this unusual situation. "Before calling us, when they discovered this issue the shop dropped the pan and went over the valve body to make sure they didn’t misplace a check ball or that a valve keeper didn’t fall out of place. It all looked good and they couldn’t see any issues like that, so the shop opted to change the valve body just in case. After this change the truck still had no reverse, so we told them try unplugging the solenoid case connector and see if reverse would come back. Sure enough, when the connector was unplugged the truck now had reverse." So why is that, and what was the cause? We get into all of that and more in this episode. Watch the video above.
