Lucara Diamond Corp’s 100 percent owned Karowe diamond mine, located in Botswana, has been in production since 2012 and is one of the world’s foremost producers of large, high quality, Type IIA diamonds in excess of 10.8 carats, including the historic 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona and the 813 carat Constellation (sold for a record US$63.1 million). In June 2021, a 1,175 carat diamond was recovered and in 2019, the 1,758 carat Sewelô was recovered putting Karowe as the only mine in history to recover 3 diamonds larger than 1,000 carats. The company has entered into two collaboration agreements, on the Sewelô and the exceptionally pure 549 carat Sethunya gem recovered in 2020, with Louis Vuitton and HB Antwerp. Following the positive results of the Karowe Underground Feasibility Study announced in November 2019, Lucara has announced in July 2021 that the Underground Expansion Project is fully financed which will extend the mine life until 2040.
