s03e46 What do you do with your excess bait? If it is pilchards then refreezing it doesn’t work well. I have known anglers who can regularly catch fish on soft old pilchards, but I’m not one of them. I have fished with them and my experience is that the fish get more of a feed than I do. However, there is another solution. Salt your pilchards. Salt draws the moisture out and toughens the bait, making it harder for the fish to get it off the hook without getting hooked themselves.
