It was just too much and you had a feeling that you have to wait till your vocabulary is much better so you can read a book. I think we've all been there and this is something that has to do with the state of our mind – whether you believe you can or you can't, you're right. If you've already been learning that language for several weeks or months and have some basic vocabulary, this method will work for you. 🙂 A bilingual book (also known as a parallel textbook) is a book in two languages side-by-side, e.g. Spanish on one side and its English translation on the other. The only problem is that sometimes there are not enough bilingual books in your country, in your language combination, or you cannot find a book which would be interesting for you. No problem – you can always "create" your own bilingual book. All you need is to get the book in the language you're learning and the same book in your native language (or a language you understand comfortably). Start reading and when you don't get a whole paragraph (not just one sentence, always go for paragraphs) take a look at its translation. In the beginning, you'll need the translation quite often to understand what's going on. But the more you read, the less you need the parallel text to help you get the point. And then, you'll reach the point where you read the book almost as easily as if it is in your native language.
