Dr. Josef Kallo, Co-Founder and CEO, H2FLY spoke at the Business Aviation Conference at AERO Friedrichshafen on April 28 about "H2FLY - Hydrogen in Aviation." This was two weeks after the four-seat HY4 aircraft with a hydrogen-electric powertrain set a world record for altitude (7,230 ft/2204 m) on a 77-mile (124 km) flight on April 13 from its home base at Stuttgart to Friedrichshafen Airport for its public debut at AERO. The aircraft was a centrepiece of AERO's Sustainable Aviation Trail, which highlighted 75 exhibitors across 11 exhibition halls during the April 27-30 aviation exhibition. The four-seat HY4 aircraft is based on the original battery-electric Pipistrel Taurus G4 aircraft which won NASA's first place prize of $1,350,000 Green Flight Challenge sponsored by Google that was held in late September 2011 at the CAFE Foundation Flight Test Center at Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California. In 2015, Dr. Josef Kallo and his team founded H2FLY as a partnership between the University of Ulm and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), with the HY4 aircraft making its maiden flight in 2016. The DLR subsequently spin off H2FLY in a technology transfer. H2FLY successfully closed a major funding round in April 2021, securing its growth and enabling the company to begin scaling its technology and solving the related challenges.
