Chargers Punch Ticket to 6A Title Game Salt Lake City, Utah — Top-seeded Corner Canyon advanced to the 6A state championship with a 59–20 victory over No. 4 Mountain Ridge on Friday at Rice–Eccles Stadium, outpacing the Sentinels with a balanced, high-tempo offensive performance and timely defensive plays. Quarter-by-quarter, Corner Canyon built a lead early and pulled away after halftime. The Chargers scored on multiple long possessions in the first half and continued to pour on points in the third quarter, finishing the night with 563 yards of total offense. Corner Canyon led 24–6 at halftime and exploded after the break to create a game-deciding margin. Junior quarterback Helaman Casuga spearheaded the Chargers’ attack, throwing for roughly 360 yards and three touchdowns, including a 62-yard strike to Kai Meza and a 40-yard touchdown as Corner Canyon repeatedly stretched the field. Running back Weston Briggs added a physical dimension, producing multiple rushing touchdowns and finishing with three total scores on the night. Corner Canyon coach Eric Kjar praised his offensive line and the team’s execution, noting the line’s ability to protect and open lanes allowed the Chargers to be productive both through the air and on the ground. “When you can do both of those things well, you’re going to have a chance to move the ball and be productive,” Kjar said after the game. With the win, Corner Canyon moves on to the 6A championship next week, one game away from a third straight state title. Corner Canyon 59 | Mountain Ridge 20
