The West African Birds Study Association (WABSA), founded in 1994 in The Gambia, is a non-governmental organization dedicated to bird conservation and habitat protection. It promotes environmental education, conducts bird research, and manages community-led bird sanctuaries like the Brufut Community Bird Sanctuary. WABSA also collaborates with government agencies and international partners to monitor avian diseases and restore ecosystems through tree planting and mangrove rehabilitation. By establishing school bird clubs and raising public awareness, WABSA fosters a sustainable relationship between communities and nature, contributing to the preservation of West Africa’s rich biodiversity.
