La Paz, Baja California Sur is one of the few places with the resources we need to resolve broken cell phones. And Tecolote Beach near La Paz, is where we capture to most mind-blowing Pelican Frenzy we’ve ever seen. If you’re just now joining us on our Baja adventure, you’ll need to know that Matt has been without a phone since he swam with it in his pocket and my phone now refuses to charge. La Paz is one of the few places with the resources we need to resolve our issues. Navigating the city is a real challenge without a phone. While having our van washed in a parking lot of the mall where we had my phone battery replaced, yes that’s how they do it in Mexico, a young man struck up a conversation with us. He told us his favorite beach near La Paz was Playa Saltito and gave us some general directions. We’re always up for finding a beautiful new location to explore, so Matt searched Playa Saltito on Apple Maps and we headed for what we hoped would be an epic camping spot. This drive is epic and the scenery is divine, but Apple Maps hasn’t directed us to Playa Saltito. Instead, the road ends at the gates of a private estate. We’ve been driving on the back roads for hours and when we finally get to Saltito there’s a funky vibe and loads of people.We’re letting go and heading for Tecaloti, a place we know we can safely camp on the beach. A few days at Tecolote is just what we need. We can walk Jessie on the beach several times a day and I’m settling into working on a video. But, unlike the quiet days at San Juanico, Tecolote is an active beach near the city, especially on Sunday afternoons - with 4-wheelers racing up and down the beach and trucks with less than adequate mufflers blasting mariachi music mixxed with the laughter of families playing together in the water. Today, there is a film crew with a drone filming a cowboy riding a horse through the surf. We found magic beyond our wildest dreams in Tecolote.
