Exclusive footage from the Kate Kennedy Fellowship Press Announcement. Mansfield Building, University Chaplaincy - 21/02/12 - 1.30am CONTACT: programming@bubble-tv.com A Bubble TV Production. Camera: Hannah Frith, Sophie Goggins, Ally Ferrans, Sarah Story Editor: Ally Ferrans and Hannah Frith --------------- Members of the old Kate Kennedy Club have split to form the Kate Kennedy Fellowship after members of the old club refused to allow women to join. Please note the old Kate Kennedy Club has not voted to admit women as some early reports have suggested. Membership of the Fellowship is automatically extended to all students at St Andrews. In the coming weeks a number of Fellows will be selected by a transparent and accountable interview process to perform the practical running of the fellowship activities. All students will be members (unless they opt out), not fellows. The fellows are those who will do most of the work of the club but all students are invited to get involved and will have the opportunity to become fellows. These activities will include the Opening and May Balls, the Kate Kennedy Procession and other charitable and volunteering events. The Fellowship will have the full support of the University, the Students Association, the Rector and the Chair of the Kate Kennedy Procession Committee. At 1:30am this morning Lady Katherine's bell in St Salvators Chapel was rung by students to mark the foundation of the Fellowship. The bell will ring again tomorrow. The old Kate Kennedy Club is no longer recognised by the Students Association or the University as the guardians of the Kate Kennedy traditions. This responsibility has passed to the Kate Kennedy Fellowship. Old club members have been given a period of grace in which they are offered fellowships. More information about the Fellowship to be announced on Saturday at 7pm. Commenting on the announcement, Association Director of Representation Sam Fowles said: "As students we should have immense pride in our university's traditions, including those symbolised by Kate Kennedy. But, for me, this pales in comparison with the pride that this university has students who are prepared to stand up and say some thing is wrong and, more importantly, find a way to make it better."
