2017 Prince Claus Awards Ceremony

On 6 December, the 2017 Prince Claus Awards took place in the presence of the Dutch Royal Family at the Royal Palace Amsterdam. Honorary Chairman of the Prince Claus Fund HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands presented the Principal Prince Claus Award jointly to filmmaker and indigenous activist, Vincent Carelli (Brazil) and new media designer and environmentalist Ma Jun (China). HRH Prince Constantijn also presented 2017 Prince Claus Awards to documentary filmmaker Khadija Al-Salami (Yemen), public art association L’Art Rue (Tunisia), scientist and environmentalist Brigitte Baptiste (Colombia), visual artist Amar Kanwar (India) and architect Diébédo Francis Kéré (Burkina Faso). The Awards Ceremony included a performance by Faustin Linyekula, Hlengiwe Lushaba, Jeannot Kumbonyeki & Isryel Jules, designed for the occasion by dancer and choreographer, founder of Studios Kabako and 2007 Prince Claus Laureate, Faustin Linyekula (Democratic Republic of Congo). All Prince Claus Awards are in recognition of outstanding achievement in the fields of culture and development. The Prince Claus Fund works toward a world of inclusive societies in which culture thrives.
