We continue our 100 days of Hornby with one of the latest examples of the Class 31 A1A-A1A Diesel Electric Locomotive. Prior to TOPS, they were referred to as Brush Type 2 locomotives, the first emerged from Brush's Falcon works in Loughborough in October 1957. D5509 eventually became 31009 under TOPS, it was built on January 5th 1958. It entered service in May 1958 at Stratford Depot. It was photographed on January 28th 1967 around Stratford with a rake of tank wagons. It was photographed again in Stratford in November 1967, still in the same livery and with half yellow panels on the front and rear that it had in January. It was photographed in August 1966 with the same half yellow panels. It was withdrawn in July 1976. By July 17th 1977 it was waiting its fate at Doncaster Works, where it would eventually be cut up in November 1977.
