These conditions can negatively impact a person's ability to actively participate in their recovery and lead to poor outcomes and decreased quality of life and family relationships. It is important for all members of healthcare teams to be aware of these conditions, actively screen and assess patients, ensure systems are in place to address identified issues and arrange ongoing follow-up across the continuum of care. The Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations for Mood, Cognition and Fatigue following Stroke module has just been released and provides guidance for healthcare professionals supporting people after a stroke. During this webinar, Dr. Krista Lanctôt and Dr. Gayla Tennen will discuss the etiology and associations between mental health conditions and recovery in people who have experienced stroke, heart conditions or vascular cognitive impairment. Participants will learn more about implementation of our stroke best practice recommendations, the research evidence that informed the recommendations, as well as practical applications including assessment and management strategies. Our goal is to improve early detection and intervention for mental health issues in people with stroke, heart conditions or vascular cognitive impairment. Intended Audience This webinar is intended for all healthcare professionals caring for people with heart conditions, stroke or vascular cognitive impairment across all settings and stages of care (e.g. acute, rehabilitation, community); system leaders and funders involved in planning and service delivery; researchers; trainees from across health-related disciplines; as well as people experiencing these conditions, their families and caregivers. Explain the impact that mental health can have on people who have experienced stroke, heart conditions or vascular cognitive impairment. 2. Describe common depression assessment tools that can be used with these populations. 4.
