Flight demonstration of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning at the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, CA, USA. One of the most famous and iconic American World War II planes due to its unique design, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning is a twin-engine fighter that's mostly famous due to its involvement and success in the Pacific Theatre. Most notably, the P-38 Lighting was the fighter flown by America’s Top 2 Aces (Richard Bong and Thomas McGuire), and was the fighter utilized in shooting down notorious Imperial Japanese Navy Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. This specific Lightning is a P-38J, and is owned by the museum. Named “23 Skidoo”, it is one of less than ten airworthy P-38 Lightnings in the world!!! Piloted by Planes of Fame pilot Chris Fahey, he commenced the demo of the famed Lightning by starting up her two 1,425hp turbocharged Allison V-1710 engines. Shortly after, he took flight and made flying passes for twenty minutes. He then concluded the flight demo by stopping the Lightning right in front of the crowd.
