They had bolt-on necks, alder bodies and rosewood fretboards. There was also a higher end version made with through-neck construction and many other upgrades that you can learn about in this video. This was initially meant to be a headless design, but the Gibson marketing team scraped that idea which left a strangely shaped guitar, but a very limited market. Had this not have happened, I believe the Futura and Corvus lineup would have a very different place in history as the first Gibson Headless Guitar Design. Who knows, they might still be making some sort of headless guitar yet today if this one would've taken off. The Futura/Corvus has been nicknamed the can opener as well as the pac man guitar. It's design is actually supposed to represent a Crow in flight... hence the name Corvus meaning crow in Latin. This guitars have a nice deep and dark sound to them. They are comfortable to sit with, but not so much to stand with for longer periods of time. The redesign made them awfully neck heavy and not well balanced.
