Climate activists have interrupted two Coalition events over the party's nuclear policy. Opposition treasury spokesperson Angus Taylor abandoned his press conference after two climate protesters continuously asked him about criticism of the plan. At another event, Opposition leader Peter Dutton faced protesters who asked him "why are you lying to the Australian people?" over the policy's cost before they were escorted out of the building by police and security. Dutton has proposed nuclear reactors to drive down energy bills, achieve net zero, and will be cheaper than Labor's renewable energy plan. The Coalition's released costings of its nuclear energy plan is priced at about $331 billion over 25 years. However, there's been calls for more details on the Coalition's costing. In a 2024 GenCost report, the CSIRO reported that 'nuclear power does not currently provide the most cost-competitive solution for low-emission electricity in Australia.'
