Somme Battlefield Pipe Band from France Beating Retreat as guests at Aboyne Highland Games 2019

The Somme Battlefield Pipe Band were special guests at the 2019 Aboyne Highland Games in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The band, which consists of 27 pipers and drummers, took part in the massed band displays and also performed Beating Retreat to mark the end of the Games, which this video shows. Apologies for the sound, there was a funfair by the Games park which can be heard as the band were playing. The band, a French group formed in 1989 to commemorate the sacrifice of Scottish soldiers who fought in northern France during the wars, performed at the Games to acknowledge the contribution that men from the local area made to Britain’s war effort, including 5 young men from Aboyne who died during the Battle of the Somme. Here the band were performing during Beating Retreat to mark the end of the Games.
