The defendant had already pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 15 years old. On December 11, 2024, state troopers responded to a crash on Highway 93 near Hillebrandt Road in Beaumont. What first appeared to be a two-vehicle crash quickly turned into a tragic scene. Investigators discovered that the vehicle responsible for the crash was overturned further down the road. The driver, identified as Ray Anthony No, had his 9-year-old son inside the vehicle, and investigators later determined the child was not restrained by a seatbelt during the crash. During the investigation, troopers observed signs of intoxication and requested sobriety testing. According to testimony in court, the defendant refused field sobriety tests and refused a voluntary blood draw, forcing officers to obtain a blood search warrant. Prosecutors revealed the defendant’s blood alcohol level was 0.149, nearly twice the legal limit. The crash tragically killed Douglas Johnson, the victim in the case. The defense asked the court for probation, presenting letters of support and evidence that the defendant had attempted sobriety after the accident. However, the prosecution argued that the defendant had previously gone through substance abuse treatment years earlier and still chose to drive intoxicated with his child in the vehicle. After hearing all arguments, the judge ruled that probation was not appropriate given the seriousness of the crime and the loss of life. The court sentenced the defendant to: • 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter • 2 years in state jail for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger This case highlights the devastating consequences of drunk driving and the dangers it poses to innocent lives on the road.
