Saddler Fighting Knife Only - Professional/No Damage

The fighting knife is now fair game since you would have access to it at this point if playing on a new game file. Which is excellent news for us because it literally turns Saddler into a 2 minute fight. I really should have done this on my minimalist run. I honestly think this preferable to fighting him with any of the handguns. Well, I don't mean to suggest that this was a total walk in the park. This is Saddler we're talking about after all. The problem with this fight is the same problem that it has always been; the Novistadors. Luckily, there actually is way to prevent Saddler from spawning a billion of them and it doesn't require a flash grenade! I'll explain that as I cover my procedure for the fight. I start off by trying to destroy the higher eye of the two. It's normally not possible to reach this with the knife, but you can just barely hit it when Saddler is stunned. The fighting knife is able to stun Saddler quickly and frequently. The issue is that hitting this eyeball is still massively inconsistent. I've never been able to find the perfect spot for it. The way Leon stabs is also inconsistent. Anyway, ideally you want to destroy this eye before the Novistadors come. When I get it done, I drop down to the floor below. This is where things get dicey. You want to clear out the Novistadors because they will cause problems if left alive. Hopefully those opportunities will present itself and Saddler should inadvertently kill some too. This straightaway is very important for this strategy to go smoothly. If Saddler ends up jumping ahead to break the floor, it won't work. Once Saddler is lured down this straightaway, I quickly destroy the last eye. Doing this sets up a knife prompt, and while it does inflict great damage the real goal of doing this is to manipulate Saddler's direction. It's vital for him to be facing straight forward. After the knife prompt, you need to go up to Saddler in the exact position I do in the video. It's not overly precise, but it's also not that forgiving either. It's also not going to work on the opposite side. Once there, I just keep stabbing the body. When Saddler jumps back, the attack should never hit you and you will be able to quickly regain the same position. The trick is that Saddler is never able to jump away to summon the Novistadors while Leon is directly under him and close to his body. This is tremendously helpful since dealing with that swarm, while still doable knife only without damage, effectively triples the length of the fight. I keep up this stabbing routine by repositioning every time Saddler jumps back until he dies. Having the long straightaway behind him ensures he won't change his pattern of jumping back, provided he retains his forward facing orientation. If he doesn't, then it's possible that you will get hit when he jumps back. It's also possible for him to do this slam attack which will most likely hit you. Even if you do dodge, the attack will change his direction and make the strategy unsalvageable. There's also a chance he will do the slam attack even while facing forward. I haven't been able to figure this out completely, but I think it has to do with your position while stabbing him. You can't be too much in front of his body, or else you risk him using that attack. The strategy is simple in theory, but unendingly annoying in practice. A lot of stuff has to go right, but for a fight that is barely 2 minutes long I think that isn't too bad of a deal. Sometimes two more Novistadors can spawn after the initial wave has been killed. They usually are there to interfere with the body stabbing phase of this strategy. I was looking for them, but they didn't show up. I don't know if they got killed somehow, or if I prevented their spawns. But if they do show up, just try and listen to where they are. You can turn around and stab them if they come from behind as long as you don't move out from the position under Saddler. Novistadors will end your attempts far more often than Saddler does himself. Though it's worth noting that most of Saddler's attacks will kill you in one hit on the default life bar. That's it. The only reason I took so long to get this out was because I was busy the past bunch of days. It only took a few hours of attempts to learn this fight and get it done. My next project will be to go through the game again for knife only and cover a bunch of sequences that I skipped. Just a handful of boss fights and combat sections that I didn't cover initially since they don't need more than one knife. Though I'm absolutely at a loss for the agonizing hell that is the clock tower lift section at the moment. I'm sure there will be other sections that will drag me through the mud too, so look forward to all of that. Also, I hope you all understand that you factually cannot beat the second phase of Saddler without a rocket launcher. It's one of several mandatory non-knife uses in the game.
