Over the years, Williams has both self-published his comics and worked with small-press publishers — and through it he's seen both the positives and negatives of the self-publishing choice. "It kind of started organically. I was seeing that a lot of my peers were just doing it themselves," he explains. "It seemed like kind of the best option for where I was at at the time. The main thing was saving up the money to actually cover printing costs." "A lot of the self-publishing...like, no real money was made," he says — but for him the immediacy and creative control hold their own value. "I still have this spirit where I'd rather just get the work into people's hands than to be turning a profit."
