Armenia is quietly rewriting its defence doctrine, and India has emerged at the centre of this transformation. Over the last four years, New Delhi has overtaken Russia as Armenia’s largest arms supplier, marking a dramatic shift in South Caucasus geopolitics. The most consequential development is a potential multi-billion-dollar deal for India’s Su-30MKI fighter jets. If finalised, it would give Armenia advanced radar systems, long-range Astra missiles and modern electronic warfare capabilities — addressing serious gaps left by unreliable Russian supplies. This would be Armenia’s biggest air force upgrade since Soviet times. India has already delivered Akash-1S air defence systems, Pinaka rocket launchers, ATAGS artillery and counter-drone equipment, taking total defence contracts beyond $2 billion.
