We were on our way to Restaurante Colibri or Hummingbird Restaurant where they hang feeders on their balcony. I kept missing one hummingbird that can be seen in the southeastern United States, so I was particularly trilled to finally add the Blue-throated Mountain-gem to my list. This is a large hummingbird with a black bill and a white stripe behind the eye and another thinner stripe extending back from the bill. It has brownish grey underparts and bronzy green upperparts turning more bronzy toward the rump. The tail is blue black with large white tips on the outer feathers. The male has a bright blue throat patch.. The Beautiful Hummingbird is a Mexico endemic. She has a long black slightly decurved bill. Her feathers are buffy cinnamon and white below and she has green upperparts.
