In the fire-scarred hills of Pacific Palisades, a home that had survived the initial devastation of the Palisades Fire has now become the victim of a post-fire hazard. On Posetano Road in the Castellammare neighborhood, a hillside property collapsed and slid down onto Stretto Way, blocking access for local residents. The incident, which occurred following recent rainstorms, involved a structure already compromised by the January fire. According to neighbors and early reports, the ground beneath the home gave way, likely saturated by heavy rainfall. A suspected ruptured water main connected to the damaged property may have further weakened the hillside and contributed to the collapse. The sliding home came to rest on top of another residence below, which had already suffered significant structural damage and was reportedly split in half. Crews are currently working to clear the debris and reopen Stretto Way, which remains blocked as a result of the incident. On the same day, Santa Monica Closeup toured the Castellammare neighborhood, documenting the aftermath of the fire, including homes reduced to rubble, scorched hillsides, and ongoing recovery efforts. The visit captured not only the visible damage but also the slow and complex process of rebuilding in a community still grappling with the disaster’s lasting impact. The Palisades Fire, which ignited on January 7, 2025, burned 23,448 acres, destroyed 6,837 structures, and led to widespread evacuations across Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and surrounding areas. Fueled by drought conditions and hurricane-force Santa Ana winds, the blaze resulted in 12 fatalities and numerous injuries before it was fully contained on January 31, 2025. This latest slide underscores the ongoing dangers faced by hillside communities recovering from the fire, as unstable terrain, damaged infrastructure, and wet weather continue to pose serious risks.
