There have been some amazing inventions in the last few years—ring doorbell, Venmo, iPad, Uber, 3-D printing, self-driving cars, flying cars, invisible cloaks, artificial intelligence, crowd funding and so on. It seems like something new is being invented every day and it's hard to keep up with all the countless tech companies and their go-go gadgets, the social networking sites with all the new clever ways to stay connected with others and how to promote oneself, and all the other latest must-haves and fads, in everything from dieting, fashion, exercise, home décor, you name it! But I’m still waiting for that one invention that would be way too cool for words—I’m talking about an actual dreamcatcher, one that really works and has the capabilities of recording your dreams. Imagine this—when you lay down to go to sleep at night you place some sort of helmet on your head that visually records your dreams, and, when you wake up, you remove the SD card or use a USB cord and watch what was recorded on your TV, computer, laptop or smartphone. Trippy, isn’t it? But no more waking up in the middle of a wonderful dream only to forget it before you’re done getting out of bed. Surely makes for an easier way to interpret your dreams if you can rewatch them. But, on the other hand, it could be a little creepy because I know I’ve had some really crazy dreams, and some nightmares, that I’m glad to have forgotten. In the mid 1800’s, the Ojibwa invented the dream catcher, a willow loop with a woven sinew net or web inside of the hoop, as a way to protect infants from illnesses and evil spirits, and, today, people still use it to ward off bad dreams. But with technology moving at lightning speed, sometimes literally, perhaps we can expect a dreamcatcher to actually catch dreams and record them. So, join me and learn how to paint this protective sleeping device that could, perhaps, one day be used to truly catch your dreams. First, you’ll learn how to use simple painting techniques for blending colors and adding depth and atmospheric dimension to create a beautiful dramatic otherworldly galaxy background. After learning how to paint stars using both a dotting and splattering technique, you’ll use a one brushstroke technique to draw and paint the outline for your dreamcatcher. Then you'll add details to your dreamcatcher by painting feathers, beads and string with a layering technique to give form, texture and dimension creating a realistic 3-D effect as if it is popping right of the canvas. Change it to a sunset, sky, or landscape background, or paint your dreamcatcher any color with any detail. This is a painting inspired by the power of imagination! Using only 2 brushes and 6 colors, you’ll paint like a professional! Have a date night at home, paint party, paint and sip event, or virtual paint night.
