Episode 13: Welcome To Mataking!

It might be one of the furthest islands from Semporna, but it is one of the most ideal islands to be on if you are seeking peace and quiet, more personal space, and a feel-good, homey feeling because Mataking Island is run by only one resort: the Reef Dive Resort. The staff are friendly, the island is exclusive, and the food is good — a perfect holiday spot. Perhaps the most interesting part about Mataking is there are two parts to the island — Small Mataking and Big Mataking. Big Mataking is the main place where everything happens — accommodation, dive centre, gym, spa, turtle hatchery, peacock sanctuary, etc. — but when the tide is low, you can walk over to Small Mataking across the sand dune. It’s quite a beautiful, unique experience. Mataking is also known for its underwater beauty. They hold underwater wedding services, and they host the first and only underwater post box in Malaysia.
