Hello Everyone, welcome back today we will discuss one important topic of plant physiology i.e. Phytochrome PHYTOCHROME Light is not only source of plant energy but also an environmental signal that instruct the growth and behaviour of plant. A blue protein pigment responsible for the perception of light in photo-physiological processes. Its molecular mass is about 125KDa. Red light receptor in plants. Blue light receptors are Cryptochrome and phtotropins. Only biological pigment present in reversible form. Exist in interconvertible form a red light absorbing Pr and far red light absorbing Pfr form. Possibly the only photoreceptor in photoperiodism and the flowering process.
