A quartz flash uses special infrared quartz bulbs that heat up in a matter of seconds creating the same amount of heat that a IR flash does in a fraction of the time, when they are done, guess what, they turn off. No burning the shop down. These flashes are typically triggered by automated equipment integration, a sensor that senses the movement of the platen under it, or a foot pedal that triggers the action. So whats the downside, it's the cost, A small Quartz flash costs 10x the price of a small IR flash and essentially at the end of the day, it does the same thing. Also a lot of them only work with the presses they were designed for.
