Vancouver Coastal Health - Aboriginal Health Strategic Initiatives MISSION: Our goal is to help close the health status gap between BC's Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations. We work toward achieving this goal in collaboration with Aboriginal communities, the First Nations Health Authority, BC provincial health authorities and the BC Ministry of Health. VCH -- "What is Cultural Competency" -- Developing cultural knowledge, skills in understanding cross-cultural interactions, and an awareness and acceptance of the dynamic variety of people and populations we work with are all crucial components of cultural competency.
