HOMILY SUMMARY: 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Celebrant: Fr. Timothy Imbya 💡 IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT LIGHT Fr. Timothy begins by asking us to imagine a world completely without light. It would be chaotic and frustrating—we couldn't drive, and even in the church, the priest wouldn't be able to find the altar. Just as physical light is essential for navigating the world, spiritual light is essential for our lives. 🍞 ISAIAH'S RECIPE FOR LIGHT Referencing the First Reading from Isaiah, Fr. Timothy explains how we become this light. It is not just about praying, but about action: sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless, and clothing the naked. When we do these things, "then your light shall break forth like the dawn". 🧂 SALT OF THE EARTH He reflects on the metaphor of salt. In ancient times before refrigerators, salt was crucial for preserving meat and preventing it from going bad. Christians are called to be the "salt" that preserves the values of society and prevents moral decay. Furthermore, just as food without salt is tasteless, a Christian without works is insipid. We must bring "flavor"—joy and meaning—to the lives of others. 🤳 NO "SPIRITUAL SELFIES" Fr. Timothy introduces a powerful concept: the "Spiritual Selfie." This happens when we do good works but try to take the credit for ourselves instead of directing it to God. He warns us against this attitude. We are merely stewards of God's gifts. We must shine our light not so that people praise us, but so that they see our good deeds and "glorify your heavenly Father". 🏠 BE LIGHT IN YOUR FAMILY The homily concludes with a practical call to action. If there is darkness, confusion, or lack of peace in your family, you be the light. If the family "soup" lacks taste (love/joy), you be the salt that adds flavor. #SaltAndLight #FifthSundayOrdinaryTime #FrTimothyImbya #SpiritualSelfie #Isaiah58 #SermonOnTheMount #CatholicHomily #ChristianService #GloryToGod #FaithInAction #SundayMass
