Kataphyto village A few kilometers northwest of the "Three Rivers", we find the village of Kataphyto, lost in the wooded slopes of Kedros, at an altitude of 1,000 m. The village is crossed by the stream Pottokos, a tributary of Acheloos, but also within the boundaries of the settlement there are several sources - fountains with running water (Tsokna, Xynori, Buta). This was possibly the reason why the old Municipality of Lakmonos, to which Kataphytos belonged as its emblem, had an old man holding a hydria from which water flowed. The settlement of Milia also belongs to the community. The population of Kataphytos in summer is 450 inhabitants and Milia 150, while in winter the two settlements have 11 and 4 inhabitants respectively. A typical village of itinerant pastoralists, it relies economically, during the summer months, on logging and beekeeping, apart from, of course, animal husbandry, which almost monopolizes the activities of the inhabitants. Although the modernization of life has changed many things, the watermill wheel continues to turn , at least once a year, grinding more memories than births. Here it is worth walking up to the peaks of Xerovouni, Skliva and Kedro and enjoying the wild beauty of Pindos. From Xerovouni you can see Chaliki and Agia Paraskevi, while the locals say that sometimes even the lake of Ioannina can be seen from Kalouta peak. An important monument of 1763, the three-aisled basilica of Agios Nikolaos is a typical example of the folk architecture of the region . Equally interesting from this point of view are the stone houses of the village, with the most representative being that of the Petsopoulos family which dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. Anthousa Village (Lipinitsa) 97 km from Trikala, the last kilometers on a road hidden in deep forests and always having Acheloos on our left, we meet, after making a short detour from the main road, the beautiful Anthousa. The village is built on the wooded slopes of Kedros at an altitude of 1,100 m, with a population of 600 inhabitants who live there only in the summer months. A typical village of itinerant herders, in winter it descends to the Thessalian plain, since the weather conditions do not allow the herds to live on the mountain. The occupations of the inhabitants are limited to beekeeping, logging and of course animal husbandry (2,000 sheep and goats and 150 cattle). Lepenitsa (ancient name of Anthousa) or Vlaholepenitsa, as its hospitable inhabitants proudly call it - due to the fact that they speak other than Greek, as second language and Vlach – experienced periods of prosperity in the later years of the Turkish rule. Traditionally, the art of goldsmithing and animal husbandry flourished here. The historic monastery of Panagia at the confluence of the tributaries of Achelou, Halikiotikos and Lepenitsiotikos, was called Panagia the Milkmaid because in the area of the monastery the cattle breeders of Tzoumerki and Lakmos met every spring and autumn either to light a candle to Panagia, their patroness, or to unite their herds on the difficult course in the mountains. In Anthousa it is worth walking parallel to the bed of Acheloos and up to the point of confluence of the tributaries of Lepenitsiotis, Halikiotis and Negri. The Lianoura, Reda, Krania and Goupi springs are also noteworthy. Anthousa is drowned in the vast forests that end in the alpine peaks Megali Rhona (1,700 m), Goura (2,200 m), Baros (2,400 m), Campo Kryo (2,300 m), Jumakerti (2,300 m). Baros is the neck between Lakmos and Tzoumerka and the natural crossing to Matsouki - Kalarrites in the prefecture of Ioannina. Vast forests (32,000 square meters of firs, pines, hornbeams, beeches, orange trees, maples, and in the springs sycamores and willows) are home to various wild animals, including a rare species of wild goat, while the famous partridge lives in the alpine highlands. Finally, at Perivoli site there is a rather steep cave, which has not yet been explored.Χωριό Κατάφυτο Λίγα χιλιόμετρα ΒΔ από τα «Τρία Ποτάμια», συναντάμε το χωριό Κατάφυτο, χαμένο μέσα στις δασωμένες πλαγιές του Κέδρου, σε 1.000 μ.
