Hursty & Rickus get excited about the smallest official whisky producing region in Scotland. This episode the boys celebrate viscosity, dissecting the rise and fall of the historical region of Campbeltown. This is the first time they've explored more than one distillery, so pour yourself an oily dram and settle in to chew on the rich history of this unique town! Campbeltown is located on the Kintyre Peninsula alongside Campbeltown Loch. It was once a major whisky producing region, having around 30 distilleries in operation in the late 19th century. Fast forward to today and only three remain: Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle. The whiskies tasted, discussed and rated are Glen Scotia 15 year old, Kilkerran (Glengyle distillery) 12 year old, and Springbank 10 year old. Addressing General Ignorance: •List of distilleries opened/opening in 2019/20 (according to visitscotland.com - https://www.visitscotland.com): ○Ardgowan Distillery, Iverkip, Inverclyde ○Arndahow Distillery, Islay ○Cabrach Distillery, Moray Speyside ○Falkirk Distillery ○Holyrood Distillery, Edinburgh ○Lagg Distillery, Isle of Arran. •The Campbells - TV show (1986 - 1990) on IMdb - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094429 •Watch Eddie Izzard rant about pears - • Eddie Izzard - pears can fuck off •Hursty was referring to Fondant when pondering about wedding cake icing. Fondant is primarily used to cover cakes, but it is also used to create individual show pieces for cakes. Royal icing is a sweet white icing made by whipping fresh egg whites (or powdered egg whites, meringue powder) with icing sugar. •Ian Hunter is the name of the owner of Laphroaig that Rickus & Hursty were looking for, and John Campbell runs Laphroaig now. Laphroaig was built by Do-Jo and Al-Jo, duh! •For learning more about terms such as 'low wines' and 'feints', check out this glossary of whisky terms - https://www.whiskyforeveryone.com/whi... •Small batch processing refers to the soaking and draining of the barley in the mash tun with hot water. The repetition and increase in temperature is designed to extract the maximum amount of enzymes and sugars from the barley.
