In the fourth episode of our series, Commissioner and Chair of the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission David Do, labor expert and economist James Parrott, and TLC licensee Osama Gawdat Ahmed discuss the importance of TLC’s minimum driver pay standards from their unique points of view. After a 2018 study, which found that 85% of rideshare drivers were earning below minimum wage, New York City acted to ensure drivers were able to support themselves and their families. This year, we’re proposing updates on our pay standards, but it’s also important to understand how they have evolved over time.
