Designing the data economy | Georg Polzer | TEDxZurich

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Thanks to total digitization of our lives, we are leaving data traces about all aspects of our behavior across a myriad of services, platforms and applications. In recent years there has been a wild growth of companies collecting, analyzing and selling such data. The legal frameworks regulating the collections and use of personal data are not adapting fast enough. There is the danger of a backlash driven by public fear and discontent. We need to strike a balance between effective protection of personal privacy while still allowing to leverage personal data in an anonymized way for a more efficient economy and better-run government. This talk will look at the current state of the data economy and will propose a framework to balance the need for comprehensive privacy and the commercial opportunities of a data economy. Georg Polzer is co-founder of Teralytics, a fast-growing data analytics company with offices in Zurich, Singapore and New York. He holds a Master Degree in Computer Science from ETH Zurich.
