Buenavista Rural Club (BVRC 001) Restoring a stone farm house in Tenerife, off grid, with 248,000 square metres of land (in a 48 hectare estate). Sometimes it feels like you've bitten off more than you can chew, and clearly this is one of those times. Using footage recorded 12 months ago I am showing you some of the farm land and the old stone farm house that will challenge us over the coming months. Clearing up the buildings and getting them ready to operate as a BVRC Club. In future videos you will see the clear up week by week as we go and also the development of our Business Plan (BVRC 005) We will see the cobwebs of giant spiders that live in the barn / stable. But we will also see the plans and dreams that we would like to implement in the rural farm. Follow our journey as we clear the land of a thorny problem: blackberry brambles and giant weeds. Then there's the 150 year old stone farm house which has been abandoned for over 50 years. No electricity, no water, no sanitation and a dangerous roof. All this is about to transform into the Buenavista Rural Club. A place where young adults can come on holiday in Tenerife and stay at the nearby youth hostel, whilst spending their days on the farm learning about renewable energy - solar and wind - how to find water, grow crops, look after animals, whilst participating in our reality TV show published right here on this channel once a week. Staying close by at the http://www.alberguebolico.com/ Bolico Youth Hostel, set in the panoramic views of the Teno National Park by night and spending their days at the Buenavista Rural Club farm in El Palmar. With evening trips to the local towns of Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte and Garachico - to visit the local cafes and bars and meet with local young people of a similar age. Goats, chickens, donkeys, geese, all create a genuine farm atmosphere. Crops such as corn, potatoes, market vegetables, fruit trees, avocados, figs, oranges, lemons, limes, olives, are grown from the fertile soil. The massive farm includes many acres of forest, with footpaths and magical clearings to explore and enjoy by foot. The deep laurisilva forest (laurel) is a protected environment which gives you access to the natural landscape of Tenerife primeval history. Running across the farm is the Path of the Conquistadores - the original track used by the Spaniards when they first conquered the Island in the 1600's. The track runs from Erjos to Teno and can be walked from end to end. Star gazing by night can be enjoyed like in few other places. The extremely low levels of light pollution means that the stars can be seen clearly, and the farm goes up above the clouds, so you get uninterrupted views of the heavens. Monte de las Aguas means the mountain of the waters. The weather in this part of the island can be very hot during the day and cold at night. Like all of Tenerife, the area enjoys a micro climate that can change rapidly from dry to wet and from hot to cold. Being prepared for such conditions is important but we are also on hand to keep our visitors safe and advise them of the need to be prepared for all outcomes. Guides are also available to accompany groups into the mountain forests and foot hills. We are sponsored by Aloe Tenerife, Tenerife Holiday Homes and TobyOne Productions (London). We aim to be a day out in Tenerife, an alternative to Loro Parque, the splendid parrot park in Puerto de la Cruz. You can visit Buenavista Rural Club on the road to Masca, the magical village that clings to the cliffs, a few kilometres away from the farm. The Tenerife that time forgot is here at the Buenavista Rural Club. (Any similarity between our name and the Buenavista Social Club is merely coincidental. We have no connection with Cuban music, salsa or merengue). The island's ties with that part of the world, Venezuela, the Caribbean and Cuba go back many years to the time before tourism took hold of the Canary Islands when we were a mono-economy, agricultural island paradise.
