I have covered topic separately Be particularly wary of • Abnormal observations, • A child that looks unwell, especially if their skin is mottled, cyanotic or unusually pale • Altered mental state • Abnormal cap refill • Reduced urine output • Signs of meningitis • A Non-blanching rash, particularly if rapidly progressing and not restricted to the distribution of the SVC (above the nipples only, can be caused by vomiting or coughing) The specifics of management and investigations can be looked up elsewhere (e.g. RCH guideline in references below), but the two key things to remember are: 1.
