Poem: Zuhad Aur Rindi (Virtue And Vice) Book: Bang-e-Dra 28 By Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal Virtue and Vice This is taken from Bang-e-Dara named by Virtue and vice. This poem has no rhyming scheme. This is awesome poem in which Iqbal share with us his story. This poem has two characters on two perspectives one is about modern Muslim with liberal thoughts and another is about religious scholar. In this poem Iqbal beautifully clarified their own belief and explains the prejudice by the theologian. The liberal Muslim is views the Islam in a broader and liberal sense while theologian took with his extremist view of faith. In the starting tour verses they told that am going to tell a one religious scholar story but it doesn’t mean that I’m expressing me hatred or anger for him. But there are some facts which are important for me to reveal in front of all. He was a philosopher of mysticism and preferred spirituality over material value and ordinary life. He considered himself as a most religious and righteous man whom heart is full with spirituality and god’s love. He proudly used to tell his miracles to impress the people, so that they could become his followers. Iqbal further told that he was my neighbor for a long time that’s why I have a kind of acquaintance with him. In next four ditches Iqbal told that one day that religious scholar talked to my friend about me and said I heard that Iqbal is a well-known poet and also renowned in literature, how is this man in God’s obedience? Is he performs the essentials of Islam? Theologian further said that I also heard Iqbal doesn’t considered Hindus an infidel and he has flexible tendency toward “tasheeh” religion. Another thing that is most objectionable is that Iqbal considered the music as a part of Islamic religion. In next verses he further talk about Iqbal and said, music concerts at night and worshiping of Allah at morning is that Islam allow us? Nor he considered that prostitutes are wrong clearly he is making fun of our religion. But he is not accused of any mischief or bad deeds in society. On the one hand, his heart is seen as a shrine of knowledge and on the other hand his immature and irresponsible nature toward religion is prominent, both are two contradictory things. The way Iqbal as adopted his lifestyle I don’t think islam permit us or he follow the Islamic rule and regulation. It’s beyond my thoughts what the secret it. so in next verses Iqbal said that theologian told lot of thing to my friend but i mentioned those were in my mind right now. However nothing can be remain hidden so some of my nearest friends told me the whole conversation of the religious scholar about me. In 20 verse Iqbal tall about one day on the way suddenly I found him and the same old things were shred in which they expressed his opinion about me. But we can see here the religious scholar changed the whole thing and said that it was just my love and sincerity I thought it is very essential to bring a stray man on the right path of religion. But here Iqbal’s kind hearted man said I have no anger feeling for you are my neighbor and it used to be right. I salute your greatness whatever you said about me I admit it. In last four verses Iqbal said to him if don’t know about me or fail to differentiate in my contradiction personality so it’s not your fault I don’t know who I am. I have shed a lot of tears and worships a lot to know myself , I have used all kind of tactics to know who is Iqbal,. But Iqbal fails to know that who Iqbal is?. In this beautiful poem, Iqbal also speaks about his beliefs and the view of others who used to be about him. Description By: Lucie Frank
