𝗡𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗔𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔. #Blacklivematter My name is Yero Abdoulaye Sow. I’m from #Mauritania. A country located between Morocco and Senegal. When we talk about the topic of slavery, a lot of you think it doesn’t exist anymore. Or you just think about modern slavery, work exploitation or enslaved migrants in Libya. But at this moment while we are all standing here, more than 43 000 Mauritanians are enslaved by birth. I am talking about being born into slavery, as a possession without any rights. In Mauritania we have Arabic masters who own enslaved black persons. They face daily abuse, exploitation and rape. In Mauritania we have cultural religious rules that legalize slavery. They define black people as less than human. All people in power are white Arabic persons, however, more than 80% of the country is black. The government gets support from Arabic countries, the European Union, the United Nations and African states. All of them prefer to remain silent and profit from our petroleum, iron and fish. In the 90’s we faced a genocide of black people in our country. Many intellectuals, doctors, diplomats, citizen , soldiers and activists where killed with the purpose of cleaning the country. Also more than 120.000 black Mauritanians where deported to Senegal and Mali, just because of the colour of their skin. Above all, on the celebration of our independence day on the 28th of November 1990, they killed 28 black soldiers as a sacrifice. We still don’t have justice for these crimes and the same criminals are still in the government. The day before yesterday one of these killers got even one of the highest military positions. 24 hours after the assassination of George Floyd, a 35 year old young black Mauritanian man named Abass Diallo, died after being shot in the chest by a Mauritanian soldier. He left a widow and 6 children, just like thousands of other black Mauritanians who got killed by our government. They will not be prosecuted, again no justice. I’m here to demand justice for George Floyd as well as for Abass Diallo. I also request to all of you here, journalists, activist, artists, politicians or others, to help us report these crimes against humanity. But I also want you to put pressure on your governments to stop looting African resources. After hundred years of colonization you should stop to rob our countries. European governments have to stop supporting criminal African governments. Supporting criminal governments that are killing their people, makes that you are supporting crimes. Supporting criminal governments means supporting genocide and war. Each one of us here also has his part of responsibility if we don’t act. As once said the famous assassinated Burkinabe journalist, Robert Zongo : “The worst is not the wickedness of wicked people but the silence of the good people”
