Ziarno (Grain) Project: The prototype station for assessment and classification of grain

The prototype station is the result of a three-year project entitled "Development of industrial methods of automatic evaluation of technological parameters and classification of grain using image analysis" (PBS3/A8/38/2015) of the Polish National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) programme. The project was carried out by: University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn Wrocław University of Science and Technology Lodz University of Technology Słodownia Soufflet Polska Sp. z o.o. The device separates a 100 gram grain sample taken from the entire delivery into single grains. Each of them is registered by 3 cameras - from above, from below and from the side. Image analysis algorithms evaluate the parameters of grains and decide to which quality class each grain belongs (eg healthy, broken, moldy, etc.). Then, by pneumatic separators, grains of each class are placed in appropriate containers, which are finally weighed. The weight percentage of different quality classes in the sample determines the overall assessment of the quality of delivery.
