HESPERIA, Calif. — At approximately 2:50 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a garage fire on the 17700 block of Hercules Street in Hesperia. First-arriving fire crews encountered a fully involved attached garage of a single story home that had spread to an adjacent motorhome. Due to the heavy volume of fire, additional resources were immediately requested. A total of 42 personnel responded to the incident, including eight engine companies, one truck company, four ambulances, a rehabilitation unit, one excavator, an assistant chief, two battalion chiefs, and one training officer. Mutual aid was provided by Apple Valley Fire Protection District and Victorville Fire Department. Approximately 30 minutes into the incident, a Mayday was declared when a wall at the front of the structure collapsed, injuring a firefighter. Fellow firefighters quickly located the downed firefighter, removed him from the debris, and carried him to a safe area for emergency treatment. The injured firefighter was transported by San Bernardino County Fire ambulance to a nearby landing zone, where care was transferred to REACH Air Medical Services. The firefighter was then airlifted to a regional trauma center for further evaluation and treatment. He is currently being treated for moderate injuries and is expected to survive. Fire crews declared knockdown of the fire approximately one hour after the initial dispatch. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshall. Five displaced adults and one teenager were assisted by the American Red Cross. San Bernardino County Fire wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to REACH Air Medical Services for their swift response and outstanding medical care during the transport of the injured firefighter.
